Tattoo Aftercare

  • Leave bandage on for 1 hour. After 1st hour, do not re-bandage tattoo.
  • Apply A&D ointment sparingly as needed for 3-5 days. If tattoo appears dry, apply more in thin layers to keep it moist. (Globbing ointment on may cause scabbing and eventual fading.)
  • Days 6-14: switch ointment for a perfume-free lotion. Apply as often as needed.
  • You may shower, but do not wash tattoo with soap for the first 24 hours. When washing tattoo: pat gently, do not scrub. Blot dry with towel. Apply ointment immediately after.
  • Do not expose tattoo to direct sunlight for 3-4 weeks. If tattoo must be exposed, cover well with sunblock SPF 30 or higher.
  • No swimming for 3-4 weeks.
  • If tattoo itches, do not scratch but gently pat it. Scratching may cause ink to be pulled out.
